I have rec’d a lot of responses to my hoarding posts. I’m assuming that they’re from folks who are aware that they have a problem with acquiring and letting go of “stuff” or know someone who does. There is so much suffering around “stuff”.
In any case, when we recognize what’s going on, we’re in a position to do something about it.
Recognizing that help is needed is a first step. We understand that something is going on – we become aware of our habits and inclinations. Then we are in a position to take action and to do something to resolve our dilemma.
We might need
• help to identify the challenges
• help to make a plan and decide what to do about "all that stuff”
• help to stay motivated & inspired to take the next step – and the next. To get the flow going & keep it going…
It’s most important to proceed with compassion & sensitivity & caring. This is HARD work! – really, really difficult… Seek out books and other resources on the topic, check out “The Story of Stuff” on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GorqroigqM), talk with folks (caring & helpful friends, sympathetic counsellors), join a self-help group, enlist the services of declutterers/organizers…
If you take the necessary steps, sooner or later, you’ll have a clean, functional, safe, attractive living space! It’s inevitable – just take each step as it comes – and keep going…
