How do I (responsibly) get rid of my stuff?

There are many local organizations that welcome your stuff!  [See Below for ideas.]

Be an “eco-conscious” recycler!  Recycle and repurpose rather than trash.

Be mindful that whatever you pass on is clean and in good repair – “quality” stuff.

Removal of items/Green Policy:

I promote recycling of your possessions and can offer suggestions on different options for appropriate disposal or sale. Any items removed from your property are, in general, done so at your own discretion and by your means.

MAKING DONATIONS:

There are numerous places where you can make Donations.  Some examples include –

The Salvation Army

Big Brothers/Big Sisters

ReStore – Habitat for Humanity

St. Vincent de Paul

Victoria Women’s Transition House Society

Thrift Stores take a variety of stuff.  Some examples are

W.I.N (Women in Need)

Value Village

Books can be donated to various organizations.

Other ideas for getting rid of stuff are gifting others or holding a themed House Party for unwanted items.

SELLING ITEMS:

There are many items that can be disposed of through selling. Some ideas are the following:

Auction:  The local auction houses will take certain items for their household, fine art, and collectibles sales.

Consignment (for clothing) & collectible stores (for household items).

Used Bookstores

Posting Online on Used Victoria, Craigs List, Kijiji, eBay, FaceBook Marketplace, VarageSale…

Garage or yard sales

OTHER:

Shredding – services such as paper shredding are available locally.

Animal shelters, service stations, window washers, etc. love towels, rags, and blankets.

RECYCLING & LANDFILL DISPOSAL:

Recycle what you can through Blue Box – and use the CRD website for more information   https://www.crd.bc.ca/service/waste-recycling

Contact Pacific Mobile Depot for Hard & Soft Plastic – also for Styrofoam and electronics     https://pmdrecycling.com

NOTE:  All electronics can now be recycled (everything with a “cord and a battery”).

Landfill – There are services that will pick up and responsibly dispose of your “junk”. They will also endeavour to sort and recycle before anything goes to the landfill.

Use it up          Wear it out            Make it do            Or do without!
