I recently helped a woman on move-in day. When I arrived, it was mid-day and she was tired. The movers had been there in the morning and the kitchen was stacked with plastic bins and the rest of the house wasn't much better. We spent four hours the first day and almost the same amount the next day opening boxes and bins, carefully taking out the contents, finding new homes for stuff, and gathering up all the packing materials for recycle. It was hard work but satisfying. At the end, two weary people but a clean and functional kitche, attractive and livable bedrooms, and a living room where one could actually sit. She still has some organizing and deciding to do (what should be kept for this new location and what needs to go?). Still, she's settled, more or less, and she did it with companionship and "expertise". What a lovely homecoming gift for herself.
